Massachusetts Cuts Auto Insurance Rates
For the second year in a row the state of Massachusetts will cut auto insurance costs. Next year the Massachusetts motorist will get a 11.7 percent average cut in their auto insurance rate which means about $119 per vehicle. The changes will take effect on April 1st.
Insurance Commissioner Julianne Bowler ordered the cuts although they are less than the amount requested by Attorney General Tom Reilly who wanted a cut of 18.2 percent. However, the State Rating Board only recommended a cut of 9.1 percent.
However, no matter what the auto insurance rate is cut by it will be good news to drivers in Massachusetts. The state pays the fourth highest auto insurance rates in the United States and it also has one of the highest cost of living.
Regulators state that the drop in auto insurance rates is due to the fact that insurance claims have dropped. The number of claims has dropped as a result of extensive efforts to reduce insurance fraud.
Those who will see the sharpest decline in their premiums are those who live in Lawrence and parts of Boston. Smaller than average decreases will be seen in other areas. However, MetroWest drivers already pay higher rates to help subsidize the coverage of urban area drivers. This cut will bring the average auto insurance premium in Massachusetts down to about nine hundred a year.
