LoJack System
LoJack is the name of a security vehicle location system that allows police to track stolen vehicles with a recovery rate of ninety percent according to the manufacturer. The LoJack Corporation makes units for passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, construction vehicles, and motorcycles.
The silent tracking device, designed to look like a common car component and randomly positioned, is hidden in the vehicle and can be activated by police when the owner reports that the vehicle has been stolen. Radio frequency technology is employed so that cars may be recovered even if they are hidden in garages or dense areas. The technology also allows the owner to be notified if the car is started or moved.
LoJack also installs the required tracking computers in law enforcement vehicles including helicopters and aircraft. Many automobile insurance providers will lower the premiums on a policy if the owner installs a LoJack system on the vehicle.
