Car Accident
The definition of a car accident is an incident in which an automobile either diverges from the regularly defined pathway (generally a road, highway, or street) or collides with another vehicle or object (stationary or mobile). The incident may or may not involve injury to humans or animals.
Other terms applied to such an incident include traffic collision, auto accident, road accident, personal injury collision, or motor vehicle accident.
Estimates suggest that as many as 90 percent of all car accidents can in some degree be attributed to driver negligence. In 2004 the World Health Organization estimated that worldwide on an annual basis 1.2 million individuals are killed in car accidents and more than 40 million are injured.
Some standard types of collision classifications include head-on collision; rear-end collision, side collision, rollover, single-vehicle collision, multi-vehicle collision, backup accidents, level crossing accidents, and suicide. (It should be noted that collisions can also involve bicycles and motorcycles.)
