Claims Adjuster
The insurance professional who evaluates the circumstances leading to a claim, such as an instance of an automobile accident, and determines if the event warrants the awarding of benefits provided for under the terms of the policy is called a claims adjuster.
The function of the adjuster is to verify that the policy's coverage is applicable to the incident in question and to investigate if the policy holder is in any way liable or responsible for the incident or event. The awarding of benefits under the terms of the policy is based on the amount of damage involved and on the degree to which the policy holder suffered physically or emotionally as a consequence.
Claims adjusters must make a timely response to the claim and process all of the required paperwork while maintaining close communication with the policy holder. They must document all aspects of the necessary investigation, assess the damage, and at times negotiate for repairs.
