MVR
"MVR" is the commonly used acronym for the phrase "Motor Vehicle Report." In the United States an individual's driving history is assembled into an MVR, which includes information about traffic citations issued or the details of automobile accidents in which the individual has been involved.
An MVR is used for the purposes of insuring a vehicle to determine not only the condition of the vehicle but also the degree of risk associated with the individual who will drive the vehicle. All insurance underwriting is based on risk assessment. For the purposes of automobile insurance, an individual who has a long record of repeated moving violations or who has been involved in numerous automobile accidents would be considered a higher risk and would thus be quoted a higher premium (or monthly fee) on their auto insurance.
Typically an MVR can be obtained with an automobile's VIN (vehicle identification number). There are multiple sources online that provide this retrieval service.
